Different countries have different medical laws that dictate what can or cannot be done in terms of IVF procedures. However, these laws apply country wise and not to individuals. For example, egg freezing is generally not allowed in the UAE, except with special permission. But UAE residents and / or nationals undertaking IVF treatment in India, can avail egg freezing facilities in India. To take the same example forward, if a couple is undertaking IVF treatment in the UAE, their fertilized embryo can be tested for quality only on Day 3. This testing often proves inconclusive in many aspects, as the embryo is only 8 cells old on Day 3! In India, the couple would be able to freeze and test the quality of the embryo on Day 5 – by which time the cells have multiplied in millions. Testing on Day 5 assures embryo quality and thus pre-disposition to diseases can be ascertained with near certainty. Further, by egg freezing, the woman is not required to undergo the whole process for the repeat cycle, since the frozen eggs can be used for the next cycles as well.
